Mission Viejo, California Speed Traps
Off-ramp of 5 Freeway on Alicia
Right in the bushes. Off ramp, 5 freeway, Alicia,
DONT run the red light right turn. Always stop. he will get u. Ive seen It happen
La Paz @ Mosquero
School’s starting up again so the dynamic duo on bikes will be backed up onto the sidewalk in the middle of the sidewalk, in the shade, on the N/W corner of Mosquero and La Paz. They shoot the traffic coming down the steep hill on La Paz where your speed can easily creep over the 40 mph posted speed unless you’re heavy on the brakes. Easy catch for these two.
Olympiad @ Bebe Park ( South of Jeronimo )
This week, our local mounted cavalry is sitting under the shade trees in the entrance to Bebe Baseball Park between Jeronimo and Escatron on Olympiad. They are able to laser traffic in both directions. One motor officer rear-ended a car on Marguerite yesterday 8/30/11 so things may be quiet for a few days. Best wishes to the officer involved in the crash.
Jeronimo Road and Valleyermo
A motorcycle cop usually sits on the sidewalk on the northeast corner of this intersection, waiting to catch unsuspecting motorists as they round the corner on eastbound Jeronimo where speeds tend to increase. Watch out for this one. The cop can appear at various times on different days of the week. I was ticketed on a Saturday afternoon. You’ll spot him just in time to see him put down his radar gun and start his bike.
Los Alisos & Vista Del Lago
This is a favorite speed trap for our brave chubby wubbies in uniform on wideload motorcycles. They love to sit alongside the right hand shoulder between Vista Del Lago & Entidad as the speed limit between the two points is a difference of 10mph (before VDL it’s 45mph & after Entidad it’s 55mph).
Beware as they will pull you over with lights flashing in a blaze of arbitrary tax generation drama for as low as 5mph over the limit. If you contest the ticket and appear before the judge, be advised that it’s a kangaroo court. Even if you know the law and argue appropriately, the judge tosses out all non-atty arguments no matter how accurate it may be.
Your best bet to contest the ticket is to do so via declaration. Don’t worry about giving up the right to have the case heard as the court is so backlogged and the county so broke, they fast track all speeding tickets to generate the most money in the least amount of time. If you contest the ticket via declaration (there is a specific form for this) the ticket will in all likelihood, be dismissed.
