Federal Way, Washington Speed Traps
320th St, inbetween 1st Ave. S and 21st Ave.
Motorcycle cop sits off to the side of 320th, right after 1st Ave. the speed limit goes from 35 to 40. He catches people going into the 40 mph area coming out of the 35. Caught me, I turned around to check on the sign after he left and he already had someone else! guess he’s got a quota.
Peasley Cannon Road — generally coming up the hill
When they are working it really good — car at the bottom of the hill (generally unmarked) is on the right side of the road and appears to be broken down — has radar and radio monitoring cars going up the hill. The officer will radio to two or three motorcycle police officers and they will stop the car for speeding. Alternative — motorcycle police in the area under the Hwy 18 bridge on the right partially hidden by bushes with radar gun; hopes on their bike and makes the stop.
I-5 on HOV overpass
WSP sits behind the sign on the overpass and runs Lazer Radar on Southbound trafic on I-5. There is always several Troppers on the on-ramp ready to go once the word is sent from the patrol unit on the overpass. Very hard to see the WSP car on the overpass.
Star Lake Road – very aggressively enforced school zone
School zone, posted speed is 20 MPH ‘when lights are flashing’. Sometimes, they forget to turn the lights on.
Cops are pretty much constantly present between 8 and 9 AM.
Westbound on 272nd between I-5 and Highway99 -bottom of hill
There’s a Kent PD bike cop that likes to hang out in an apartment complex turn-in right at the bottom of the (steepish) hill. Posted speed is 35, but it’s really easy to go over coming down the hill.
I haven’t seen him in a while, it might only be a summertime speed trap.
