Pekin, Illinois Speed Traps
Route 29 and Coolidge beside Casey’s.
Regularly, a relay of city police cars line up on Coolidge and use radar to catch speeders on Rt 29 going both directions. Also, police cars hide in cemeteries on both sides of the road to catch speeders.
On top of the Pekin Bridge eastbound
Cops set on top of the bridge (VERY UNSAFE) catching the 40 mile hour drop in speed zone just feet away. There is not enough room on the sholder of the bridge for an emergency stop let alone a cop with no lights on at 5 am in the morning.
IL Rt 9 on Peoria Co. side of IL river bridge @ Pekin
On IL Rt. 9, on the Peoria Co. side (west) of the Illinois River bridge @ Pekin, IL. As you travel West, there is a side road exit on the RH (north) side about 1/4 mi. past the bridge. The speed limit is 55mph, but the bridge is highly arched, and as you go downhill you will gain speed unless you use the brakes. A Pekin City police officer often sits there in a background of trees and brush where he can monitor cars both entering, or leaving Pekin on Rt. 9.
Lately, I have even seen him on Sunday mornings as I travel to church.
