Typical of Ann Arbor Speed traps, the trappers conveniently locate themselves at the bottom of a long northbound decline (which begins near Vinewood), insuring that northbound motorists will unwittingly gain speed as they approach the trap. (The posted speed along Washtenaw decreases the closer you get to campus.) The vantage point on Cambridge at Washtenaw also ensures that anyone violating the many illegal left turn signs along this strip of Washtenaw is dead meat. Police have been obsevered before 8:00 a.m. even on a Saturday, and during summer months, a flock of motorcycle cops (5 or 6 at a time) can sometimes be spotted here. Fun stuff! Ann Arbor’s many speed traps are a year-round outdoor sport for the police, and a colossal revenue maker for the city. Call it taxation without representation.
