Canal Road near Between Sterritt and Van Dyke

Sterling Heights, MichiganMay 26, 20052 Comments

Speed limit drops from 40MPH to 25MPH when heading WB on Canal, just before Van Dyke. Area is residential and the police will often park behind other parked cars, obscuring visual sighting of them.

Comments:
Most radar cars in this area are the Utica Police on the north side of Canal about a quarter mile east of Van Dyke. They are out there almost everyday unless it's raining and they don't want to get wet.

I've been driving for almost 5 years now, and the only spot on Canal that has cops hanging out is right before Van Dyke Ave. because they drop the speed limit from 40 MPH to 35 MPH and 2 inches later, 25 MPH. The Utica Police Department usually puts a radar equipment that shows the speed limit and your current car speed. My 2001 Oldsmobile Intrigue GX speedometer states that I'm going 25 MPH, but the radar equipment says 22-24 MPH. They need to move that radar equipment somewhere where it doesn't curve, or put a speed limit sign with a "your speed" marquee and, of course, move the "Reduce Speed Ahead" before the speed limit changes to 25 MPH. For those who drive in the area, check your speed to save points and money from a speeding ticket, even in school speed zones.
