Nichols
As soon as you enter Nichols, SC and go through the stop sign – they are waiting for out of state license plates, personalized plates and family vehicles. The officer has a very rehearsed speech and no answers to any questions as to why you were pulled over.

Yep, this practice is still going on as of February of 2011. Was in personalized tag in older van. Caught for going 38 in 25. Same as earlier comment. Was very sure not speeding and was in same place. Thank you fine officers for your fine hospitality!
Ate lunch today with the SC state representative from my county. Discussed the speed trap in Nichols, SC. As it turns out, Nichols is very much on the radar of the state legislature. There is a big difference between a legitimate speeding ticket and a speed trap set up to enrich the town coffers. This is bad for tourism headed for Horry County as well as South Carolinians with beach homes. Those of us with second homes are tired of going to the beach by way of Egypt to avoid going through this town.
Nichols, S.C. is nothing but a speedtrap, pure and simple.
I was not speeding, but yet I was written up for a 48 in a 35.
It was at the end of the month (quota).
This is how this town collects revenue, and it is very sad indeed that in the
year 2012 the South, and the state allows this stuff to continue.
I have not been issued a ticket since I was 17; I am now 58.
Does that tell U something? Don't travel through this town unless U
also want a ticket.
