N. 380 at Diagonal Drive exit

Cedar Rapids, IowaJun 10, 20106 Comments

There are permanent speed camera’s set up for the North bound traffic just after the speed limit changes to 55 mph. Each lane has it’s own camera mounted behind the Diagonal Drive exit sign that hangs over the interstate.

Comments:
What do these cameras look like?

The cameras are mounted in the large overhead freeway signs. You cannot see them but they are there. Northbound 380 at Diagonal Drive and again at H Avenue. Also, southbound 380 located near H and J Avenue. The southbound cams will begin giving out tickets sometime mid October.

I received my ticket today (10-18-2010) for the violation that occurred on 10-10-2010. The Location is I-380 North Bound at Diagonal Drive. This is nothing more than a "Money Grab" by the city after hearing a slick talking sales pitch from Gatso USA. Shame on the City Council Administration Committee that voted for this 3 to 1 (N.T. was the lone vote against). The following is the response from the Chief of Police when he was asked if they could use it in a tryout period to issue warnings. "...we have to keep in mind the company isn't going to give us $60,000 in equipment to issue warnings and not generate revenue," That is from the chief of police! That was pulled from the on-line edition of the WCF Courier 9-15-2010. Issuing me a ticket 10 days after the infraction…how in the world did that make the road any safer back on the 10th of October. City Council, you ought to be ashamed of yourselves for trying to grab yet another buck from the taxpayer to pay your pensions, salaries, benefits etc…

Yep, they got me too. So has anyone had any luck challenging these in court? Any lawyers out there that can offer us some advice?

Re: Comment #4, You could try what one guy did - he subpoenaed the camera to appear in court to testify against him. Of course that didn't happen and he won! This Cedar Rapids camera is obviously just for revenue generation.

Hi Mr Mayor I will pay my fine, but not without telling you , I will never spend one cent in you city or town again. You not only tring to be the start of big brother, but You are also punishing the people and businesses in you City and Town. Good luck with your new cams I hope they get struck by lightning along with all who voted for this wonderful way of traping for money. Your fine American Taxpayer. Tony V. FA&M
