After 30 years of traveling to N. Myrtle Beach (without tickets), we were 'cited' for speeding in Nichols! Coming into town the posted speed limit is 35mph. After the stop sign you'll see that it drops to 25mph. Again, knowing this area, we've always obeyed these 'laws'. An officer (unmarked car) pulled us over. Husband asked (most politely) 'what's the problem officer?' He stated, "I clocked you @ 38 in a 25 zone". Husband asked to see the radar as he's been this route for over 30 years w/o incident & was told, "No sir, I've cleared it and SC law states I don't have to show you any more." Ticket was issued, week @ beach was ruined. We will be disputing this as we both know he was NOT speeding.
On the way home, we saw that it was exactly 2 blocks (from stop sign to our alleged violation) and know our SUV (fully loaded) can NOT get up to 38 mph. What a scam!
Nichols SC, Avoid at all costs, unscrupulous, unsafe and a RACKET. If I sound a little upset I am. For three decades I have been very cautious about my speed on the road and thus avoided any such tickets. Upon traveling to MB I took the wrong turn off 95 and that put me on 9 which went through Nichols SC. With a sleeping family there was no rush as getting in at 3:30 or 4am does not really matter. I played the small town game with their speed limits going from 55 - 25mph. With blue lights blazing I pulled over and received my first ticket for 38in a 25 zone. Surprised, startled and upset I headed down the road. Now with a fully awoken family they hit their smartphones and disappointment turned to utter disgust. Nichols SC, where 13 over is the norm. Where out of state plates cost you dearly and vanity even more. Stay clear, avoid their gas stations and their restaurants. Avoid Nichols SC like the plague. Never again.
