Intersection of Routes 17 and 160
17 South has a stop where it merges with 160 West. The stop is marked by two signs, one oversize and another of normal size about 30 feet beyond the first. Many motorists who stop for the large sign then crane their necks to the left to look for a break in westbound traffic on 160, in order to merge into it. They then roll unwittingly through the second stop sign a few feet further on, and the Alamosa County Sheriff sometimes stakes out that intersection for several days at a time, writing hundreds of summonses. Not a "speed trap" strictly speaking, but just as costly.
