Beneva between Bahia Vista and the railroad tracks
The 30mph zone as Beneva passes through Pinecraft extends futher north than necessary to protect the heavy pedestrian and bicycle traffic in the area. An officer will set up on foot near the tracks with his radar gun and a line of cruisers to ticket his prey. Although the four lane road with a raised median looks like it should be at least a 40mph zone it is not.

This is definitely a speed trap. The speed limit has been 45 there since Beneva Road opened many years ago. A couple of years ago, they changed it to go from 45 down to 30, rather than gradually decreasing. This is the epitome of a trap!
The reason the speed limit was decreased in this area is because of several pedestrian deaths in that section of Beneva Road. It has to do with the Amish people who tend to cross without regard for traffic lights, and they seem to think they can cross anywhere they want to. That is also the reason for the brick circles inlaid at that intersection. So it is a speed reduction area but not necessarily a speed trap.
