I have recently discovered to my dismay that what Milwaukie, Oregon is famous for is its speed traps (you can check this online at many sites). What this amounts to is legalized, institutionalized, banditry. A situation like this can not exist without corruption in the leadership of the city. Ultimately, it is the people and the business community who are responsible for their government. It is for this reason that I am now boycotting the city of Milwaukie and everything in it.

I will find another dentist; another grocery store and sporting goods store. I will also find other restaurants to eat at, and another place to service my car. The people of Milwaukie may be able to tolerate their dishonest, thieving government, but I won’t.

Their most infamous speed trap is on SE McLoughlin Blvd (99E); a four lane divided highway that runs through the heart of the city. They drop the speed limit to 30 mph for a short section of the road.

I am in complete agreement! Can we start a petition or a class action lawsuit? I have had over twenty years without a ticket and now I have to pay the Milwaukee allot of time going to traffic school and allot of money to keep my driving record clean. Boycott Milwaukee and its businesses! I will never drive through the town again!

I agree completely! I have never driven through there before in my life, but I had some business to take care of out there and I am driving along at 45 MPH when it suddenly changes to 30 MPH, so I began slowing down... and on my ticket it shows me going "44 MPH". Well the first sign that has the posted 30 MPH on the left lane is under an overpass so with the glare of the sun it makes everything else darker and impossible to see the 30 MPH sign... and the other sign in the right hand lane was being covered up by the photo radar van making it impossible until right at the sign to see them! I have never sped in my life and when I see a sign that shows a lower posted speed I slow down. What Milwaukie is doing is disgusting. They know, and everyone else knows that is is a cash scam for the city. I will never go back there! We should start a Facebook page for all who are fed up over this!

Has a Facebook page been started? Has anyone successfully fought one of these tickets? Is there a chance that the 'ticketing officer' will not show up for court OR, because it is a photo radar, no chance?

There was one case won on King Road by the Safeway. There was an a 25 mile speed limit sign that was contested and proven to be an unauthorized sign. The sign is still there. I don't know if it has been approved yet.

Absolutely a speed trap!! Milwaukie has made a big investment in this downtown area - one side is a Willamette River waterfront park and new bicycle walking path, the other a weekend farmers market, coffee shops, library, antique shops, restaurants etc. Lots of car, bicycle, and foot traffic and the speed trap is NOT a short stretch of 30 mph as the original poster indicates; it extends for the entire length of the downtown area from overpass to overpass. They will get you with a signed white van at either end of town for driving just a bit faster than the speed limit. Fortunately the vans are easy to see and the road is straight. Slow down! don't let them get your $$$!

Be VERY careful of the Safeway intersection on King Road. You will not see the motorcycle cop until its too late. Speed drops to 25 mph near the intersection at stoplight and there is a pedestrian crossing on the corner a block west of the there. Not only will they get you for speeding, but also for not yielding to pedestrians in the crossing and for not signaling a turn if you are going west on King and turn left onto 42nd.

Many cities reduce the speed limits in congested or more populous areas. This is not rocket science. The posted speed limit is clearly marked from both directions. It's not like you suddenly find yourself in a lower speed limit with no warning.
