On Va. Route 5 near the plantations
When traveling east-bound on Va. Route 5, approaching the historic plantations, there is a single 45 mph speed limit sign. After passing the plantations, there is no further speed limit signs for miles. One assumes the 45 mph zone is finished, as passed the plantations it turns back into a country road similar to the rest of route 5 which has a speed limit of 55 mph. This is to deceive you. Many Charles City County sheriff vehicles are placed on route 5 to take advantage of this deception, and they will clock you going well over the 45 mph speed limit, usually 15-25 over. Route 5 is a Charles City County revenue-maker, and they take unfair advantage of travelers who drive on the road as if it was any other rural road in Va., a 55 mph-zoned road.
