This particular speed trap relies on the speed limit signage. The speed limit signs are not placed in accordance with Texas or Federal guidelines. Check the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices. The speed limit signs are on the overhead sign supports. The manual explicitly says they should not be placed there because drivers do not have time to process overhead signs and speed limit signs. In addition, there are too many signs on the overhead installation. Including the speed limit signs, there are 5 signs on that structure. The guideline says there should not be more than 3. Fight these tickets and expose the city of Garland for running an illegal speed trap!

Following up on the previous post, the section of the manual which relates to the illegal Garland speed limit signs says "Regulatory signs, such as speed limits, should not be used in conjunction with overhead guide sign installations. Because road users have limited time to read and comprehend sign messages, there should not be more than three guide signs displayed at any one location either on the overhead structure or its support." The section of the Federal manual is "Section 2E.11 Number of Signs at an Overhead Installation and Sign Spreading". Don't let Garland steal driver's money with these illegal and irresponsible speed limit signs. Garland has a responsibility to properly (and legally) inform drivers of a lower speed limit (if there really is a dangerous road condition which warrants lowering the speed limit). Fight the ticket, get a good lawyer, and out Garland's dishonest speed trap!

The FWY actually has not ended at that point. And the speed limit change signs are WELL MARKED as you pass the North Garland Road S/C area. All one has to do is PAY ATTENTION and watch the spped limit signs and the Construction Zone signs and SLOW down then you will not have to worry about it. They're are not using radar, but laser now. No contesting a laser as it will target only one vehicle at a time and is extremely accurate!
