I was raised in this town. As you come into town on the East side there is a flashing yellow light due to the elementary school just 3 blocks down. Many years ago, when I was in school, there was a Breckenridge Police Officer that when he was off duty would go to this intersection on his own time to make sure children got across the highway safely. One day, the children made it, but he was run down and killed by a speeding motorist. Later they got crossing guards for the children, and yes the police do try to slow down motorists especially in this area. It's bee over 50 years since this happened, and I still think about it when I go to my home town and go past this flashing light. Sometimes, they may be speedtraps, but this is a safety issue for the children.
