SH 170 at Alta Vista Rd.
This is as clear an example of speed limits being used solely for revenue generation as I have ever seen. SH 170 is a 6-lane rural highway extending from IH-35W to SH 114 on the north edge of Fort Worth. Speed limit is 55; based on the low traffic volume and thin development, it probably should be 70. Then, just before the intersection at Alta Vista, the limit drops to 40 for absolutely no reason. Fort Worth PD and Tarrant County sheriff hang out right at the corner, which is at the top of a hill. You’re dead before you ever realize it. Don’t go over 45 here, and don’t exceed 60 on any of Hwy. 170.
