US Highway 290 near State Route 95
While driving from Houston to Austin, there is a speed trap right at US Hwy 290 and SR 95 in Elgin. It is here that the speed changes from 65 to 50. Unfortunatly for me, I was tagged with an instant-on laser before I had a chance to react to the change in posted speed change.
11-15 over is a $150 ticket.
16-20 over is a $200 ticket.
Guess what I got? City of Elgin is setting on a cash cow.

The speed limit does NOT change from 65 to 50. There is a 55mph zone in there that you totally missed. Westbound on US 290, as you pass ROY DAVIS ROAD, and come down the hill the speed limit drops from 65 to 55. Yes, there is a reduction in speed warning sign, too. Then it goes to 50 mph at the city limit of Elgin.
Pay closer attention and stop staring at your hood ornament.
