Wonderwood Drive near Girvin Road

Jacksonville, FloridaJul 16, 20083 Comments

This speed trap is located heading west on Wonderwood Drive after the Intracoastal Bridge. There are normally 2 motorcycle cops that sit off to the side of the road in the bushes. They are only there in the afternoon after when the Naval Station is normally clearing out for the day. You NEVER see them there during the weekend so to me, they’re targeting members of the military. Further proof is there’s another motorcycle cop that sits on the eastbound side in the morning right before the bridge. Again, they’re never there during the weekend.

Comments:
This area should have a speed trap set up. The speed limit along Wonderwood coming up to the intersection at Girvin is 45 MPH. There have been numerous accidents at this intersection, people shouldn't be going over the speed limit in this area. People have been killed at this intersection and by military personnel running late trying to get to work on time. I've lived in this area since 1987 and remember before the bridge was built and it was a two lane road. It's great to have another access to the beach as well as the base but if people can not get up an extra 5 or 10 minutes earlier so they don't have to go 70 MPH through this area then they deserve each and every ticket they get.

Yes I live in this area also. And the military are always in a hurry here. They don't seem to care what there doing behind the wheel. But in addition to those motorcycle cops there are also two unmarked patrol on this road. They are normally between Girvin and Mayport Road. I have seen lots of pull overs on this road. All I can say is don't be stupid!! The cops will give you 5 mph over the speed limit unless you are being stupid!!

It's not just the military, also civilian contractors DOD employees, military dependants and people that have no association with the military. Some may be running late but there are also a lot that feel the need for speed. An adrenaline rush. Some have gotten right up on my tail trying to make me either go faster or move over. I do neither. The closer they ride my tail, the slower I go. The cops should be out there ticketing at least once a week, could help bring Jax's budget back in the black in no time!
