Lake Avenue near Front Street

Wilmette, IllinoisAug 05, 20080 Comments

In a pocket near so-called West Park, a Wilmette police car (or two) sits starting very early in the morning, including weekends. The posted speed limit on this part of Lake Avenue is 35 mph. It’s a straight, fairly safe, two-lane each way portion w/o people crossing it or any obstructions. Police takes advantage of motorists driving around 40 to 45 mph. They tend to write a higher speed in your ticket than you actually drove. When you notice that and try to correct the speed value in the ticket, saying that you have traveled just 40 mph, the policeman takes it as your admission of guilt pointing out that the limit is 35 mph, and that you have already broke the law even driving with the speed you quoted.

By the way, all Lake Avenue east of that area to Green Bay Road is full of police car nowadays
