March Road near Corkstown Road
Ever since the Ottawa Police stepped up their ticket campaign in early 2004, the March Road @ Corkstown intersection has become a pet site of the Ottawa Police.
Beyond the Highway 417 & March Road crossing, the speed limit for the first 800 meters of March is 60km/h, and increases to 80km/h beyond the Corkstown intersection. The police take advantage of the fact that many people are velocitized to highway speeds and pass by Corkstown doing 90-100km/h. The police vehicle is parked on Corkstown, obfuscated by nearby brush, making it difficult to spot more than 30 yards prior.
Whereas March Road is a wide open 4-lane road, the police usually have no trouble finding people driving at least 30-40km/h above the posted 60km/h speed limit. This spot was never given much attention by the police until this summer, so many people were caught off guard on their daily commute to high-tech Kanata.
