Riverside Drive near Interstate 55 North

Memphis, TennesseeJun 20, 20081 Comments

Interstate 55 North effectively stops at Crump Blvd. All traffic going north exits the freeway onto Crump Blvd to cross the Mississippi River. Where I55 stops on the Memphis side of the river it ends and turns into Riverside Drive as the road goes under Crump Blvd and the railroad bridge, the speed immediately drops from 55MPH to 40MPH. The traffic that does not exit to cross the river on I55 goes under Crump Blvd and the railroad overpass and the view is blocked. A Memphis Police officer sits just pass the underpass to issue tickets. Travel on Riverside drive is preferred for quite a number of tourists since the Mississippi River flows next to Riverside Drive and a city park affording a view of the river and barge traffic.

Comments:
I live near this location and frequently see police ticketing cars. However, in general Memphis does not seem to have many speed traps.
