State Highway 64
Oakland is the worst of the 2, much worse than Whiteville but Whiteville is pushing for the title. The way Oakland has done it is that once you see the sign saying reduce speed ahead if you don’t immediately get off of your accelerater by the time you get to the slower posted speed you will not have had time enough for your car to slow uo to meet the new limit without some braking..and of course, that is where the cops sit. If uopn leaving Oakland your are in a 55 MPH and you see the 65 MPH sign ahead and you start to accelerate to 65 mph, you will get a ticket because you didn’t wait to get to the 65 mph sign. Whiteville is just a wide place in the road amybe 30 miles east of Oakland. The town of Whiteville has snatched up a vast stretch of Hwy 64 east, east of the town. This area is completely rural and far away from the village of Whiteville where the cops NEED to be patrolling, not in the boonies! Well guess what…they patrol in the boonies. (I consider this to be very poor police work to say the least. If you are on the open road, early in the morning with no one else around, why would a municipal cop be out there? Caveat Emptor!
