Northbound Throgs Neck Expressway near Randall Avenue

After exiting the toll plaza on the Throgs Neck Bridge, you are offered two choices: the Cross Bronx Expressway/Bruckner Expressway (to the left) or the Throgs Neck Expressway (to the right). Both are posted 40 mph work zones (numerous signs), however, the Throgs Neck Expressway signs start @ least 1 mile before you actually get to the work zone. As you come around the bend approaching Randall Avenue, there "he" is sitting on the grass. "He" is an NYPD Highway Patrol Officer, & he has issued numerous summonses @ this location. As a resident of the area, I routinely see him stop people about every 8-12 minutes (yes!-just that fast). I recently asked him about the location & he was very polite/informative and gave me a very detailed explanation about the area, his tolerance, and the penalties. This Officer doesn’t write anyone less than 30 mph over the posted speed limit (which if you ask me is extremely fair). Unfortunately the fines are doubled and driver’s who come through this area and get caught face a minimum fine of $180 + the surcharge & 6 pts (and that’s only if you are doing 70mph). If you are convicted for more than 70: it’s a whopping $360 + surcharge & 8pts. This also doesn’t include the driver’s responsibility assessment that DMV added which adds a minimum of $300 for the 1st 6pts and $25 for every pt after 6 (ouch!). My suggestion is that you don’t speed through this area….ever.
