Athens, Alabama Speed Traps
North and South Along I-65 markers 340 to 360 city cop
CIty of Athens have installed gravel turn arounds in the mediums of the interstate and patrol with a hand held radar unit…all day long, not so much at night.
Between Clements and Blue Springs
There is an unmarked pewter SUV that patrols between Clements High and Blue Springs Elementary every day. He likes to park at Clements Baptist and at the fire department and shoot the radar, but he also drives circles hoping someone passes him on 72.
Elkton Street North at Bible School Softball Fields
Athens City sets up in the back part of the parking lot next to Elkton Street and is hidden from view until you top the hill in front of the softball fields. Speed limit is 40 when you first turn onto Elkton from Elm street red light going south but drops to 30 about 50 yards from where the police set.
cowford rd and Nuclear plant road
three way stop sign that use to be a yield sign, State troop sits at frequently to write fail to stop. You have to slow down to turn right but if you do not stop completely the trooper will give 200$ ticket… Great use of our state troopers out here in the county at a stop sign that has little traffic
E Pryor St
From Hwy 31 to Athens State University. Speed limit is 30mph. Police sit in a church parking lot at the top of a hill, they sit in an intersection at the bottom of the hill (if you think you are doing another driver a favor by speeding up so they can get into the traffic don’t, most of the time it is a police cruiser waiting on you). They also sit in the parking lot across from the old chicken plant. It is not uncommon for them to give out 4 or more tickets per day.
