Maplesville, Alabama Speed Traps
near rest stop on U.S. 280
Be very careful in this area. Cops like to wait aside then get behind unsuspecting drivers. I always go 55 MPH in this area, and it seems like the cops intentionally get right on my tail in the hopes that I will go above the speed limit. So my big warning is the following: If you are going through this area and someone is driving really close behind you, DO NOT speed up. Even if it isn’t a cop behind you, a cop may see you going above 55 then pull you over and ticket you – without hesitation. I thought that roads, especially U.S. Highways, belonged to the people who pay for them (taxpayers), and that they are free to be used by anyone without risk of harassment. I guess I was wrong!
US Highway 82 near Chevron headed east and a rest area headed west
Local Maplesville P.D. sit at the Chevron and at a spot across the highway from the Chevron looking for people going 1 M.P.H. over 55M.P.H. I always start slowing down right before a hill or at the rest stop if I’m coming from the other way. They don’t mess around and usually the Narcotics Unit is out and they like to make money for their town and Chilton Co.
