McCalla, Alabama Speed Traps
McAshan Road
Jefferson County Sherriff Deputy sits in a small dirt road just off of McAshan Road between Eastern Valley Road and Old Tuscaloosa Highway. The speed limit is 45. He is usually there in the mornings.
Tannehill Parkway near Interstate 59
Speed trap is on a two lane parkway heading to Tannehill State Park. Cops sit at the bottom of a hill right before a sharp curve. Posted speed limit is 35mph but due to the grade of the hill you are going down it is hard to maintain 35mph short of riding your brakes.
I- 20/59 at exit 100
At exit 100 you’ll see two strips in each lane. They are separated so they can judge your speed by how fast your axel travels from one strip to the other. They monitor the speeds from a little shelter on the east side of the interstate. Frequently several state troopers will use this to catch speeders. RADAR DETECTORS ARE USELESS AGAINST THIS. Since the trap is physically measuring the time it takes for your left and right tire to cross the mark, no radar signal is sent.
