this town is notorious for stopping speeders. The speed limit through town is THIRTY (30) miles per hour and it quickly drops from 45 to 30. Best idea is to get to 30 asap and staying there until completely out of town. As you go from Alpena towards Eureka Springs be aware that the town extends until the top of the hill well out of town and he is often at the top of that hill.
Close to Fire Station
As you come into Alpena the speed limit drops quickly to 35 mph as you round the corner coming into town. A cop tends to sit, hidden, back by the Fire Station right beside the Post Office.
State Highway 412
This guy gets off on stopping multiple motorists at once. He also clearly explains that if the ticket is paid directly to the city, it will not go to the state docket, however, if it’s not paid, he’ll have your license suspended.

Alpena is a town of 300 people that has 3-4 officers and two cars. The town has only one source of income that being speeding tickets
Hwy 412/62 East on new four lane
New two mile long four lane divided highway 412/62 east of Alpena going to Harrison. Going west the speed limit goes up to 60 but it reduces down to 35 as you enter Alpena. The speed limit also reduces drastically to 45 at the end of the four lane going east as it turns into two lanes about a mile from AR Hwy. 65 intersection at Bear Creek Springs. There are several small hills which hide the officer’s car. This is patrolled by County and State Troopers and Alpena City Police (which is new).
