Flippin, Arkansas Speed Traps
CR7055 (Old Dump Rd)
When you exit US62/412 onto CR7055 (speed limit 35)you go up a hill which starts to level off.As you top the first rise there is a sign ‘reduced speed ahead’.When you clear the second rise it is 20mph and a cop sitting there. The speed limit sign(20mph)is behind a tree branch at the second rise.Locals(Flippin res) get a warning…non-locals get a ticket. My 37mph got me a $155 ticket.I have no traffic infractions for 23 yrs. I know of at least 16 people ticketed here(all non-locals)
US Highway 62E near Dollar General
Watch out as your exiting town up the hill, past the dollar general store. They sit in some vacant lots on the right side.
State Highway 178 near Ranger Boats
This trap has been around for several years, there are a couple of spots that the local police or State Troopers can sit and not be visible at all to oncoming traffic. You can be hit from either direction, east (leaving Flippin) or west (entering Flippin). The road is a fairly long straight stretch and it is easy to speed as you are going into town, however a cop will wait on the other side of a rock wall down at the last Ranger building and hit you as you go by. I’ve also had one hit me as I am leaving Flippin and start to speed up on the straight stretch, they hide either at that rock wall, or in a driveway on the left hand side of the road at the 178/202 junction, or in between two cedar trees at the Ranger plant. The speed limit in Flippin changes constantly so just watch the signs and go slow until you get out of there. As of 2004, they have been extremely aggressive, the extra dollars coming in from tickets are helping to fund a new project for the city so they are looking for income however they can get it.
hwy 62/412
This town is very much a speed trap,i see at least one cop every morning before i get to work about 6:15 in the morning. I also pass through there on the way home about 4:50 in the afternoon, and 99 percent of the time he,s waiting on you at the end of town on the back road behind the church, its a good hiding place for them, hard to see them till it,s to late. By the way its 40 miles an hour by the church so do it ,,,trust me.
US-62B
When entering Flippin from the east and west, you go down hills. The speed reduces on those down hill grades. Traveling east from Yellville, one passes the gravel company and then the hill. When descending on the hill, the speed decreases from 55-45 then from 45-35 all on that one single grade. They sit at the old restaurant (left) or the store across the street (right). Sometimes they’ve been seen in the lane to the park there.
