Quitman, Arkansas Speed Traps
Quitman High School/Elementary School/Sonic
Driving north on Highway 25 past both schools around 4:30 PM.
Not speeding in a 35 mph zone; noticed the yellow flashing lights warning of speed during school
Crowded traffic all going the same speed. Not passing/keeping a safe distance.
Several miles past the schools, police turned lights on, stopped me claiming I had exceeded the speed past the school several minutes before. Claimed on the ticket I was going sixteen miles above the speed limit. No way. I would have been on top of the cars in front of me passing fast at that speed. Claimed I was inattentive driving (code for a speed trap). In an old car filled with camping equipment with hail damage. Stood out so he picked me from the crowd. Charged $175. Knew the whole thing was crooked. Even from their attitude when I paid they knew. Speed trap. Afraid to go through Quitman again. Been traveling another way for fifteen years with no problems but 40 miles longer. Will return to long path. Cheaper.
US Highway 25 near Mormon Church
There’s usually a cop in the parking lot of the mormon church. The church is right before a speed zone (going from 35 to 45 to 55), so they catch people speeding up to get into those. Quitman is a very small town and the police will not hesitate to give you a ticket.
Highway 25 between Conway & Heber Springs
Speed limits suddenly drop to 35 cruise & radar also sit at the Exxon & hide on both ends of town and going out of town on 225. I can’t believe nobody mentioned this town, they have nearly as many police as they do citizens & they love to stop you..
