Carlsbad, California Speed Traps
Avenida Encinas Road near Palomar Airport Road
This is not really a speed trap, just a revenue generator for Carlsbad police. Across from Marie Calendars is a traffic island cut-through left turn lane posted no U turns. People leaving the McDonalds just to the south with no left turn exit option often enter this left turn lane and U-turn to return to Palomar Airport Rd. The motorcycle cops hide at lunch time behind the bushes down low in the business across from Marie Calendar’s and bust the U-turners. Watch out, and go to the next cut through (100 yards further) that is not posted.
State Highway 101 near Between Carlsbad and Oceanside
Speed limit changes several times between Carlsbad and Oceanside.
Carlsbad Village Drive near Monroe Street
Motorcycle officer w/radar on Southeast corner of intersection will radar westbound traffic coming down the hill. This is counterintuitive as the officer is on the opposite side of the street from the traffic he’s targeting. Occasionally, they’ll be past Monroe St. on the right side, just around the bend.
Cannon Road near Faraday Avenue
Car or motorcycle on dirt road between Faraday and Legoland Dr.
El Camino Real Road near Marron Road
Motorcycle cops hang out on the south side of El Camino Real starting just east of Marron Rd around 7-10 in the morning. Usually they are at the corner by the movie theater but I’ve seen them farther up the hill (east) too. The speed limit is 35 mph in front of the mall and up the hill a bit before it opens up to 55 mph. It is easy to do 40-45 mph in this area and lots of traffic.
