Palo Alto, California Speed Traps
Alpine Road near 280
Several CHPs in this area as of June 22, all on the southbound side of the road.
Embarcardero Road near Middlefield Road
Usually see at least 1-2 cars per week being pulled over by motorcycle cops between Bryant and Newell roads. They are waiting off driveways or on smaller side-roads. Posted speed limit is 25 (school @ corner of embarcadero & middlefield) but cars usually go around 35-40 when they are further from the school. going east, once you past newell, you’re fairly safe.
Fabian Way near West Bayshore Road
motorcycle cops hide in the driveways of the Space System Loral buildings preying of lunch time traffic.
Alma Expressway near Oregon Expressway
I used to commute from the South Bay to the Peninsula using Central/Alma every morning and afternoon. The area to be careful in is between E/W Meadow and Oregon. It’s primarily a residential area adjacent to Alma (the North end of the street) so it’s easy for them to hide in driveways, behind trees, or off connecting streets. Sometimes it extends further to California or up to Churchill by the High School.
Alma Street near Charleston Street
On Alma, between Charleston and the entrance to San Antonio, and/or between Charleston and East Meadow, there are often cops either on motorcycle or patrolcar waiting for speeders. The speed limit there is 35, but very soon after, when Alma becomes Central Expressway, it is higher. The cops often pull people over onto Lindero Drive, although I was once pulled over at the shoulder right before the ramp to San Antonio. At that time, the cop was waiting in the synagogue/church parking lot. I used to live on Lindero, and there were frequently cops giving tickets to speeders from Alma. The temptation is high to drive more quickly, but I would be careful.
