Canon City, Colorado Speed Traps
Highway 50
When heading west in town on highway 50, just after Village Inn, the speed limit drops from 45 to 30. A couple blocks later is where you will get pulled over and have since seen others getting this same ticket. I got a ticket for 43 in a 30. I was actually 2 under the limit for this po-dunk town but missed seeing the 30-sign and got hit for 13 over and about $200. This was in January 2011. God knows how much they are going to get later.
CO RD 11 (Highpark Road)
This road is off Colorado Hwy 9 and takes you to Cripple Creek. From Hwy 9 to mile marker 4, the speed limit is 35 mph. From mile marker 4 all the way to the Teller County line, the speed limit is 45 mph. The area is patrolled by Colorado State Troopers and Fremont County Sheriff’s Deputies. Very easy to get caught on this road.
York Ave. & High St.
Fremont County Deputy in unmarked black car sits on High St. shooting radar both ways on York Ave. If you’re going north on York you won’t see him until it’s to late because a fence blocks him. If you’re going south you’ll see him a little sooner but not by much. Watch out, he does not give warnings!!!
Hwy 50 & 14th
Police cruisers like to hide on the south side of Hwy 50 between the Waffle wagon and Jiffy Lube. You won’t see them till it’s to late.
The whole town
There is a cop that thinks he is a know it all.
Likes to get you for no front plate!
