Colorado Springs, Colorado Speed Traps
South Nevada Road near Southgate/Cheyenne Road
Motorcycle cops will sit on the corner (on the sidewalk) right next to McDonald’s. They’ll also sit on Southgate just past the BP station at the entrance to the Panera Bread.
Platte Avenue near Chelton Road
Motorcycle officers wait along frontage road adjacent to Platte Ave on the northwest corner of the intersection by International Motors. They sit behind parked cars and radio to other partners sitting in the Krispy Kreme parking lot (how ironic!). They are watching for motorists that run the left turn arrow from E/B Platte Ave to N/B Chelton Rd. They also have vehicle length markings on the median curb to estimate how far back the motorists were before running the red light.
Union Boulevard near Fillmore Avenue
Intersection of Fillmore and Union. Motorcycle cops wait in the medians under the trees and nail you if you run the lights or speed through a green one. Often there are one or more on each corner.
Centennial Boulevard near Vindincator Drive
There is a school zone just south of Vindincator on Centennial Blvd. where you need to slow down to 20 when the school zone light is blinking. Just after 11 in the morning it is on and later around 2:30 – 3:00. There is usually a cop hiding down the side street that just waits for someone to come speeding by and pulls out to get them.
Uintah Street near Institute Street
K & KA Band Radar being run next to the school. Zoned as a 30, but most traffic does 35-37. Unmarked gold crown-vic sits on the side of the road running front & rear radar, or motorcycle cops hide on side streets or sidewalk. If it is a nice day, beware!
