Crested Butte, Colorado Speed Traps

Between the towns of Crested Butte and Almont. The speed is posted as 55 MPH, could easily be driven at 70 MPH. There is always a cop patroling and giving tickets. Even 3 or 4 miles over 55 will get you a ticket.

There is heavy speed traps around Gunnison all the way to Crested Butte and the speed quickly changes to 15mph in the town of Crested Butte and is heavily enforced. Police love to ticket out of town visitors as this is nice source of revenue for a small town. Be very careful.

The downtown area of Crested Butte has a rediculous 15MPH speedlimit. I was pulled over for going 26 in an 15 and given a $100 ticket with 4 points. This is a ploy by the predominately tourist driven town to raise money for local government. Boycott Crested Butte if possible to send them a message.

Car was patrolling back and forth along the highway between the two towns with radar constantly running.
