Durango, Colorado Speed Traps
All over Durango area
This town has an amazing & very annoying number of speed traps for a small town. Driver beware! Such as Hwy 160 West after you pass the intersection with Hwy 550N : 35 mph zone first, & the next section of road is very often being watched. Note: if one of those mph signs is gauging your speed they usually are waiting to get you.
On Junction Street (25th Street), at city/county line.
A motorcycle cop often parks at the corner of Junction Lane and Junction Street (which is also 25th Street closer to town). If you’re heading out of town, the trap is about .5 miles past Miller Middle School, just before the road veers off to the left slightly. If you’re heading into town, the trap is about 100 yards past the parking lot for Dalla Mountain Park (also known as Sailing Hawks), as the road eases to the right (and you enter a more dense residential zone). The most common times that the trap is manned are midday on weekdays and at night (1-3 A.M.) on big bar nights (Thursday-Saturday). There is a related trap at the Middle School itself – a cop car parked out front – but that one is rarely manned by anyone. Even so, please go slow in the school zone.
Bayfield buck hwy
buck hwy/cty rd 501. heading south of 160 the marshalls have resorted to parking in drive ways where you can’t see them. The speed limit is 25MPH. Also heading north on 501 from 160 obey all speed limits untill you are past the school. they range from 25-35
Junction Street
I live up Junction Creek and commonly enter the city limits from CR 204. I always slow down at the last curve just past the parking area for Dalla Mtn. Park. Quite often DPD are watching. It’s easy to not slow down quickly enough from the 35 MPH county road speed limit to the 25 MPH of Junction Street. Yesterday (4/20) a cop car was parallel parked in front of the "Old folks home". I would have been nailed if I had been speeding. He was perfectly hidden.
East College Drive near East 6th Avenue
There is usually one or two cops posted in this school zone – scanning traffic going into and out of town from 7:40-8:15AM and then again from about 2:15-3:00
