State Highway 50
A trucker friend was recently cited by the City of Gunnison for weaving…based on a phone call from a retired attorney" who said "this driver is drunk and weaving." Two Gunnison PD cars pull him over. He’s obviously not drunk but they cite him for weaving based soley on the phone call. The PD knows truckers can’t usually make it to court without a substantial loss of money so they pay the ticket and Gunnison rakes in the loot."
State Highway 135 North/South near US Highway 50
All around Gunnison there is heavy, heavy radar-enforced speed traps. It is recommended that you not speed anywhere near the area. You will often see people pulled along the side of the road being ticketed.
US Highway 50 near Mile Marker 126
When heading east on highway 50 down the pass, speed is checked by aircraft on the straight section on highway 50 near mile marker 126 where the downhill forces tend to make you speed without touching the gas peddle. A police officer waits on the other side of a small hill ready to stop you at the bottom after the officer in the airplace radios your speed. The fact that no other traffic is on the road at the time doesn’t matter!
