Johnstown, Colorado Speed Traps
South of Highway 60 about one half mile on C.R. 13
There is a Weld County Sheriff who parks at the bottom of the hill on the west side of the road on County Road 13 approximately one half to three quarters of a mile south of Highway 60. He catches people mostly heading nothbound and when going over the top of the hill, he has his radar pointing at you and it is easy to go 55m.p.h. plus on this straight road. The speed limit however is only 45 m.p.h. and it is easy to nailed there. The county sheriff who usually mans this site routinely tells people they’re going 20 m.p.h. over the speed limit and he is not a nice man.
State Highway 60 east near Interstate 25
The local police in Johnstown like to hide in the entrances to many of the new housing developments and the park-n-ride by the interstate. They seem to concentrate on the am and pm rush hours but can be seen throughout the day. The speed limits go from 45 to 55 back to 45 then 35 min about 4 miles. In recent months they have gotten more creative in the way they hide their cars and can be difficult to see. Since nothing much happens in this town they seem to like writing speeding tickets. If you are not paying attention you can easily run 10mph over without realizing and they will nail you for it. The spots to really watchout for are the school zones which are clearly marked, there is no tolerance for speeding of any level here. So, pay attention and enjoy your 5 min drive through Johnstown.
