Kiowa, Colorado Speed Traps
Co. Road 45 south of 86
A residential street with low posted speed limit 50 mile to 30 on down hill. Almost every one that lives south of Kiowa has to use this road to get out of area. Many have received tickets the last 3 or 4 mo.
There are four ways to enter Kiowa (only 4 blocks long) the town has made the decision to increase its revenue by speed trap and is doing a good job of it. They use unmarked cars and marked cars lurking it the shadows and enforcement is focused on revenue instead of enforcing safety. This is probably only for the people living out of town limits and can’t vote for town officials.
If true this is unfair and discrimination.
I will quit doing business in Kiowa and many of my neighbors fell the same way.
approximately 11 miles north of town on Co Rd 49
Deputy sits in a depression on south-east leg of the curve where 49 turns into Kiowa Bennett rd. Speed has been arbitrarily set at 35 for this 1 mile long stretch of 49 running west from Co Rd 53. It is 50 everywhere else. I was supposedly clocked doing 46 in a 35. $164 and 4 points. This is a flat pasture wilderness area with excellent pavement and clear views. No reason to be set up with radar except to fill the coffers of the county. No traffic passed for the 20 minutes I waited on the deputy to finish writing the ticket.
Kiowa Bennett Road just North of Hwy 86.
The speed limit is an unexpected 20 mph. I was ticketed and fined $220.
west of Kiowa, descending the hill down into Kiowa
55 MPH reduced to 35, once over the bridge if speed is not reduced- your goose is cooked.
look for side street across from the convenience/gas station. By that time, its too late !
RT 86 west of town
The 55 mph zone used to start right after the bridge. They moved the signs halfway up the hill and have an officer hiding behind the bridge. Dirty trick! Avoid this little burg like the plague!
