West Haven, Connecticut Speed Traps
Elm Street near Town Line
As you leave West Haven Elm St becomes Kimberly Ave New Haven. NH PD motorcycles have speed trap under I95 on a regular basis.
Capt. Thomas Boulevard near Savin Rock
There is a trap in between "Turk’s" restaurant and Savin Rock. They often do radar and spot-checks. They are there when many drunk drivers are expected (ie. Holidays, special events, etc).
State Route 1 near White’s Plumbing
Cops sit in driveways from the gas station parking lot just east (towards NHU) of White’s to the (nearly) deserted shopping plaza near the top of the hill toward Sam’s along Rt. 1.
They will also stop you for loud exhaust (both bikes and cars).
Ocean Avenue near South Street
Often there are at least 1 cruiser parked in the dirty/gravel parking lot near South St waiting for that unlucky someone. This is also a favorite for spot checks. During the summer it is most active also when the local high school gets out (1-2 pm).
Elm Street near 1st Avenue
Coming off the southbound exit 43 onto CT-122 which turns into Elm Street, there is often a WHPD patrol car on the left on Elm in the parking lot about a block before 1st Ave. This is most often between the PM rush hour and up to 2AM or later. Unfortunately, the speed limit is not posted anywhere between the I95 exit and 1st Ave, and the speed limit there is 25 so they get a lot of business.
