Cottondale, Florida Speed Traps

Local Police in Cottondale Police cruiser pulled me over as I was headed north on US 231 towards Dothan, Alabama. I was given citation for going 57 mph in a 45 mph zone. I applied brakes when I saw the 45 mph speed limit sign. I was in heavy traffic (Memorial Day traffic) so I did not suddenly apply brakes as that I did not want to cause an accident. The officer turned around suddenly and I was shocked that he was after me. He was as rude as any law enforcement officer I have ever encountered. He did not say ten words to me just cited me. When I attempted to as a question he rudely said all I needed to know was on the back side of the ticket. He then abruptly left without another word. I am used to dealing with the Dothan, Alabama police and Cottondale, Florida officers could take a few lessons from these officers. Very rude behavior; not impressed.

I came into the town with my cruise control set on 45 heading northbound on Hwy 231. The speed limit in this town is 45. My father and stepsister were following right behind me when we passed officer. I was pulled over and he said I was going 57 in a 45 when my speedometer said 45. I saw the officer along the long straight away before I even passed him. He was using his radar sitting on the opposite side of the road shooting it across 4 lanes that were very busy on this day. I don’t think he is an honest officer at all. His totally inaccurate made up speed wasn’t anywhere close to my cruise control that was set at 45.

I had the exact same experience as above poster. I was speeding, yes. No argument. Cpl O stopped me and said I was speeding and changed lanes without signaling. Yeah, to get out of his way to the tight if he needed to pass. Same routine. As above. Said one sentence then walked away. Came back with 2 tickets and said call the number with any questions and walked away as I started asking him questions. I’m in law enforcement and I don’t treat drivers this way. It’s disrespectful. He actually checked that I was “aggressive driving” bc I didn’t signal. Wow. Spirit of the law, Sir. You are unprofessional. I didn’t try to show him my badge or anything. I accept responsibility. But the level he took it is not right.

I was traveling northbound on 231 towards Montgomery AL and as I was leaving Cottondale a Jackson County police department cruiser turned his lights on and pulled me over, walked up to my car and immediately asked for my drivers license not once telling me why I was being pulled over. I am also a police officer so I know how to act during a routine traffic stop. I handed him my license and attempted to ask a question but he ignored me and walked back to his car. A few minutes later he came back, handed me my ticket and walked off! I attempted to ask him a question again and he just walked away. I drive this road a few times a month and I know the difference in speed limits through town. I was cruising at 45 mph, once I passed the 55 mph zone, I sped up to 58 mph like I always do. He wrote me a $200 citation for traveling 58 in a 45. I have seen numerous threads about this apparent abuse of power and his terrible attitude when dealing with motorists. Do not give in to these bullying tactics, take him to court and file a formal complaint. This needs to stop

Pulled over by corporal o. Apparently i was speeding and i accept responsibility. i was in a 45 mph zone and he wrote i was in a 35, so he falsifies tickets. However his conduct on the stop was unethical and unconscienceable. I had to get new plate because i moved into new county. I hadnt changed out the plates and had the new one on the passenger seat. My husband usually does those things for me and he was due back from afghanistan shortly. Well corporal o said that what i had done was an arrestable offense and he could take me to jail right now! As an aside,he was incorrect and had no grounds to arrest me because you have to put a plate from another vehicle to be arrested for attached tagnot assigned. Meanwhile my three year old is terrified in back seat because this man in a uniform is screaming at his mommy. I have worked in law enforcment and know how to conduct myself on a stop so his screaming was inappropriate for the situation as no one was screaming or even speaking to him. Then mr o yells at me to get out of the car and change put the plate. So i do so without question and get back in the car. My son is crying in the backseat cryingand asking me if thebad man is going to take me away from him. Mr o is a predator and thrives on the power he wields, and the abuse he wreaks on innocent people. I called fdle and they said to call internal affairs or chief. Turns out the chief approves of mr o’s conduct. Meanwhile my son now fears men in uniforms…..thanks mr o for scaring an innocent little boy
