Melbourne, Florida Speed Traps
Pine Cone Road near Turtle Mound Road
The speed limit on Turtlemound is 40 mph; the road veers to the right and becomes Pine Cone, which is 30 mph. However, the 30 mph sign is actually on Turtlemound, a short distance before veering onto Pine Cone, and actually shows a diagram of the slower speed applying only to Pine Cone. Logically, the sign gives the driver enough time to slow down to 30 mph when entering Pine Cone. A motorcycle cop sits hidden in driveways on Pine Cone and issues tickets for exceeding the 30 mph speed limit when the driver is still on Turtlemound. Please beware.
Sheridan Street
Sheridan runs between John Rodes and Wickham in West Mlb. Speed limit is 30 (???) and 36 will get you a $200+ ticket. Cops do the tag team method, one officer standing w/radar gun and two cars hidden at each end. This trap got both my sisters and I within 2 months (our parents live in the area).
Stewart Road near Sarno Road
Traveling north on Stewart from Sarno – the corner where the Chevron is – you will find a speed trap in the public park. It is on the east side of the street just north of the Armory. Often times a truck, unmarked and looking like a normal car sits there to catch speeders. Do not speed on this road – the police are relentless in this stretch all the way to Lake Washington.
Doherty Drive near State Highway 192
The police sit in the Woody’s BBQ parking lot and look south on Doherty in the mornings before the restaurant opens. The speed limit is only 30 on this drive.
State Highway 518 near Pineapple Avenue
Observed numerous speed traps with multiple cruisers waiting to apprehend people on weekends mornings when driving west on Eau Gallie Causeway from beachside just before Conky Joes. Cruisers not visible until you come around the bend.
