Ocala, Florida Speed Traps
SE 17 Street near Lake Weir Avenue
The local police sets up 1 to 4 units including motorcycles and cars to operate radar from the entrance to Druid Hills Church parking lot. The problem is that this position is located at the bottom of a hill and large trees at the entrance hides the officers from view. The downhill angle increases as you go down it to at least 15 degrees. Starting at 35 mph I have coasted down the hill gaining 12 miles per hour as I approached the bottom of the hill which would allow them to clock me at 47 MPH.
SW 17 Street near State Route 200
As you drive from Route 200 towards Route 441 the posted speed limit changes suddenly from 45 MPH to 35 MPH. I have seen Florida State Patrol cars parked on the side streets and sometimes during evening hours, stationed in the parking lots running radar specifically where the speed limit drops. My radar detector goes off indicating Ka band confirming a speed trap.
SE 12th Street near State Route 200
Posted speed is 35 mph, and officer is located on West side of SE 12th St, parked just past the car dealership.
SE 31st Street near SE 36th Avenue
The speed limit drops quickly from 35 mph to 30 mph on a street where motorists are usually going 40-45 mph. The radar is usually under some trees just beyond the speed limit change sign and there are always several cars lined up as I go by (I’ve been lucky so far!).
