Hilo, Hawaii Speed Traps
State Highway 11 near Highway 11 between Ken’s Pancake and the Airport Road
An HCPD officer routinely sits in his subsidized vehicle in the parking lot of one of the businesses (commonly HPM or Carpet Isle)lining the Keaau bound lane monitoring Keaau bound traffic w/ his Laser. Although daytime sightings have been made, enforcement is most common after dark when the HCPD officer’s vehicle is least visible. He parks facing Keeau but positions his Laser on his Driver’s side window facing Bayfront. Speed limit is 35mph w/ average driver going 45 – 55.
Mohouli Street near New section of road
HCPD routinely monitors this road because it is down hill, straight, and the posted speed of 35 mph is unrealistically slow. The road appears to be designed for at least 45 mph (wide lanes of travel with wide shoulders) but due to a few widely spaced cross streets the actual speed limit is set at 35mph. This site is probably the most often watched & monitored site in Hilo by HCPD.
County Trunk 2000 near Mile Marker 4
County cops hide on curves and pull-outs. Ten miles up the road is the most hazardous spot in the State (mile 13-14) but the cops will bust you at mile 4 because it is only a couple of miles from the police station.
