Wilmette, Illinois Speed Traps
Lake Street near Skokie Boulevard
Lake Street is always a challenge, but traveling south on Skokie Boulevard after leaving I94 is particularly tricky. There is a left tirn light at the intersection of Lake and Skokie. If you spped up to make it through the light they will catch you every time. Traffic moves quickly at the interesection. There are no schools in that section of Lake, but marked cars will follow you to Ramona Street which is in aschool district and pull you over there.
Lake Avenue near Forest Preserve Bike Overpass Crossing
Police sit just beyond the forest preserve bicycle overpass, which is one block west of Harms Road and just east of St. Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church at Wagner. For westbound traffic only, as eastbound traffic is in another jurisdiction.
Green Bay Road near Oakwood Avenue
Police vehicle typically sits in the former Kohls Children’s Museum parking lot just north of Walker Brothers restaurant. The car is hidden by shrubs and other buildings and is hard to see until its too late.
Lake Avenue near Ridge Avenue
Lake Ave. West of Ridge and East of Skokie Rd. (rt. 41). Passing through one is likely to spot at least two patrol cars in this area. The speed limit is posted at 30 mph but traffic usually flows at about 40 mph. Police officers like to hide their cars behind a hedge in a large church parking lot (Latter Day Saints) off Lake and radio another car which is in traffic on Lake. The patrol cars in this area are lightly marked but don’t carry external "mars bar" lights, which make them hard to spot.
Sheridan Road
Wilmette has two spots for speed traps on Sheridan. The first is the bend near Gilson Park and the other is just as you enter Kenilworth. I’ve seen cop cars in both locations but have been to hit the brakes in time. Usually they sit in these locations during off hours during the day and sometimes late at night.
