Carmel, Indiana Speed Traps
Michigan Rd. 9600 BLOCK
Almost everyday a cop sits on Michigan Rd. just before the light at 98th St. from 10:30 AM – 2:30 PM, then again from 10:00 PM – 11:30 PM. Honestly, I think they are looking for people coming out of RCI, but will happily pull anyone over for anything.
Main St. (131st) from Keystone Pkwy to River Rd.
The whole section of Main St. (131st St.) east of Keystone Pkwy is one big speed trap. The speed limit is only 30 mph, but should be about 40-45 mph based on similar roads. Be especially carefully in the stretch that is one mile east and one mile west of Hazel Dell Pkwy.
The entire city
Don’t speed anywhere. The cops in Carmel are the worst. 2 mph over, pulled over. I’ve even been pulled over for “going too fast around a roundabout.” A thing that physics tells me isn’t possible as I made the turn without even a modicum of tire squeal. Oh, and don’t drive a beat up car anywhere in the city limits, you will be profiled.
On 116th Street just west of Rangeline Road
Have seen an officer sitting in the median during morning rush hour (8:30am-ish).
N. Pennsylvania St.
This is a favorite lurking strip for cops and they hand out tickets wholesale. Ironically, I’ve seen several bad crashes on Pennsylvania, and they had nothing to do with speeding and everything to do with inadequate signage.
I agree with others who recognize the entirety of Carmel as an infamous speed trap. It must be a major profit center for a city that loves to build grand projects that are awash in red ink.
