Indianapolis, Indiana Speed Traps
Interstate 465 near Michigan St. Exit
Police have had lines painted on the freeway to clock speed with the airplane. They are clocking speeds at least a half mile before the construction zone but marking on the ticket that it was a construction zone violation.
Interstate 70 near Interstate 465
State cops like to sit under the I-465 overpass on I-70. Unmarked IPD occasionally sits there too, tucked in behind the concrete barrier so you can’t see him until it is too late. The state police post is just 2 miles east of this junction at the post road exit (exit 91). Occasionally, state boys will get on at Post Road in fully marked cars and set the pace for traffic all the way into downtown. Keep your eyes open until you get to Emerson Ave.
N Illinois Street
During warm weather months. 1500 Block of N Illinois. When heading North out of Downtown you will encounter multiple motorcycle Police that are very hard to see until it’s too late
Hanna Avenue near University of Indianapolis
Hanna Avenue runs through the University of Indianapolis campus. To the North is the school and to the South is the dorms. The Speed limit into and out of this area is 35 but 25 in the zone. There are several crosswalks for the students. Campus police monitor this street, all hours, day and night. It’s roughly a half mile stretch.
S. Madison Avenue near Pleasant Run Parkway
Anyone leaving downtown Indanapolis on Delaware Street south onto Madison Ave. towards Southport and Greenwood have probably seen this speed trap, but it is worth noting…especially for the out-of-towner. Just south of the stoplight at Pleasant Run Parkway and S. Madison is Emannual High School (left as you go south). It is only a few feet from the road. The speed limit is 25 between 8am and 4pm. The Cop is typically an IPD officer in a marked car hidden on a side street to your right as you go south. BE CAREFUL. Alternatively right around the time school lets out there may be bike cops standing in the median with radar guns waving speeders down. If you speed past them you deserve the ticket. The cops also use the instant-on technique with their radar so your detector my sound too late. Be careful on school days!
