South Bend, Indiana Speed Traps
Nimtz Road near 31 Bypass
Both State Police and SBPD routinely set traps on Nimtz between the 31 bypass and Bendix.
Sample Street near South Bend Chocolate Company
SBPD regularly sit alongside South Bend Chocolate Company to catch speeders on Sample. I’ve also seen them across the street in the parking lot of Weddings by Perfection.
State Highway 23 near Mayflower Road
South Bend or St. Joe County Police wait in driveways as you come into South Bend from the south on St. Rd. 23. Speed limit changes from 55 to 45 abruptly. Same thing if you are going in the other direction leaving South Bend on St. Rd. 23 going south the same way. Police hide behind businesses driveways.
US Highway 31 near US Highway 31
I make regular trips to South Carolina and so must regularly drive the dreaded US31 corridor from South Bend to Indianapolis. The speed limit the whole way is 55 even though the highway is straight most of the 150 miles. Watch for cars coming up behind you at high velocity and then slowing down 500 feet back. 9 times out of 10 it’s a cop coming up fast to pace you. There really aren’t any places for cops to hide but watch overpasses and little towns.
Cleveland Road between Ironwood & Hickory
Cops sit in driveways. Residents in this area have been "complaining" about speeding. I was pulled over, and given a warning, along with an explanation that "we are pulling basically anyone who is speeding over just to get people to slow down."
