Ames, Iowa Speed Traps
13th St. 800 block approx. 1 mile from Interstate 35
You can see the speed limit sign. The area is non-residential and the speed drops arbitrarily from 45 mph to 35 mph. The speed limit sign is on a light pole, but the light is apparently not working. This location is especially a problem after dark.
6th
driving fast on 6th (by the stadium and commuter parking lot) late at night is a bad idea, unless you want to see the lights in your mirror. this is especially bad on weekends at bar close. again, ISU Police is great at giving warnings as they are looking for bigger fish to fry than your speeding. just dont pretend you are NASCAR revisited and you shouldnt have to pay too much money.
Mortensen pkwy
Mortensen pkwy west of state and east of south dakota is especially bad late at night. ISU Police are pretty tolerant with excess, but when you are going 10 or more over the limit expect to get stopped. ISU Police is good about giving warnings just look out for additional charges including DUI or arrest warrants
Stange
stange just north of the ISU campus is a bad place to speed right under the railroad bridge. speed limit is 25, you should do 25.
Hyland Ave.
The police like to hang out in the unitarian church parking lot and pick people off, this is not a very important trap, but you may get caught here. It is on the west side of the street on the North end (towards 13th street) The speed limit is 35 and you can generally get by at 45.
