Des Moines, Iowa Speed Traps
2nd Avenue near In Between University And North High School.
Police car sits either in the parking lot of Praxair or any of the parking lots between that and the bridge, just south of North High School. He pulls over every car possible that is going faster than 35 down this street. The speed limit is 30.
Hubbell Avenue near University Avenue
The Des Moines Police traffic unit seems to "poach" on the south end of the Hubbell Ave, between Grand Ave and University Ave. They seem to sit in the evenings after 5:30pm. The stretch of Hubbell roadway includes a bar and multiple hispanic businesses. Pretty easy pickings… They often sit in business lots that are closed after 5pm. Sometimes they seem to tag speeders, but I’d guess there are a lot of suspected drunk driver stops as well.
Ingersol Avenue near Noah’s Resturant
An officer usually can be found sitting in the parking lot of Noahs resturant just west of MLK parkway on Ingersol. Especially friday and saturday nights, but has been seen other nights of the week.
Locust Avenue near Central Campus, Downtown
An officer will hide at the beginning of locust, the one way that goes east through downtown and is the main strip of "the loop." He will pull you over for going just a few over the posted limit (25mph) then relentlessly write you fix-its or any other type of ticket he can come up with. BEWARE, officer is very rude, strict, and will not give warnings. He will even get out a tape measurer too see if your car is too low to the ground, just to show how far he will go to fine you.
Franklin Avenue near between 48th st. and 55th st. on Franklin Ave.
Cops can be found radaring anywhere between 48th and 55th street on franklin ave on the south side of the road. Commonly found hidden towards the back of the Mercy center or hidden behind the senior center. Cop tends to be pretty strict from what I’ve heard.
