Highway 65/69 Bypass

Des Moines, IowaJul 24, 20020 Comments

At the Vandalia Road Pleasant Hill exit there are three bridges, they hide in the ditch between the bridges. From what I’ve seen they only go after people doing 75+mph, but they are there almost every day.

1 DM Police car hiding behind Freeway signs shooting radar on to the freeway. 4 or 5 others on the on ramp. Raidos description of car to an officer in the trap and pulls you over on the freeway. Typically anything 7+ MPH over gets pulled over.

I-35/80, either direction to or from the Merle Hay Road exit.

I drive this stretch every day to & from work, & there are weeks that I see multiple people stopped every day, both directions. Start looking around the Douglas Ave exit, but the chances get greater the closer you get to the Merle Hay Road exit… I’m not even sure where the troopers sit, because they are *always* pulled over with someone. I think they like to try to catch the out-of-towners.

This street is quite narrow; nevertheless traffic tends to travel 10-15 MPH over the limit. WDM officers know this and like to sit on side streets just out of sight. Warning citations don’t seem to be written often on this particular stretch of road.
