Kansas City, Kansas Speed Traps

On Speedway Blvd and 110th street and including State Ave in the vicinity of the community ball park and “Legends” entertainment area.
This was in mid afternoon and observed two pullovers about 2:30 pm

When traveling north on 86th street, there are many big hills and there is lots of acreage with few houses. Not many posted speed limit signs and few people or animals around. The trap is at the bottom of the hill right before you get to a small area of houses quite close together. You need to be focused on your speed and braking constantly. Even then on a hill, it is hard to go slow enough. The motorcycle cop is hiding in the area of the houses and on the east side of the street. He was professional and pleasant, but a trap is a trap.

Cruisers sit it two positions during the morning rush. One is in the Speedway drive nearest State Ave. Line of Sight is obstructed by a house and hill. The second position is in another entrance around the corner, blocked by a grove of trees. You will not see the cruiser until you have passed the treeline. The posted speed is 40 mph, but there is no residential or commercial on this connector road, and the posted speed of State Ave. is 55 mph, and that street runs through a busy commercial area.

One Cop hides behind the overgrown bushes at S. 59th St. with a laser and half a dozen cops wait about a 1/2 mile down the road to pull over speeders. When asked for evidence of your speed you are told that the radar has been cleared and you can not see it.

The speed limit approaching this exit is 60 miles and hour but drops to 50 just before the exit. The speed limit sign is obscured by bridge pilings and it’s real easy to miss. I’ve pointed the sign out to people who travel the road daily and they’ve never noticed it before. Kansas Highway Patrol will frequently wait just around the curve and snag people who didn’t realize the speed limit had dropped.
